Kilroy Hughes is a multimedia developer and consultant who has authored over 150 published CD-i and Video CD titles for business and professional applications. He was selected as one of the Top 100 multimedia producers of 1995 by Multimedia Producer magazine. His company, Future Media Systems, specializes in applications that require innovations in electronics and equipment integration to provide complete multimedia products.
A recent example is the "ExploreCycle", an exercise bike integrated with a CD-i MPEG display system that gives a user the experience of riding through the Swiss Alps, seeing what a cyclist would see and feeling what they would feel, with the ability to steer using the handlebars to explore the video world while getting an entertaining work out. This product was recently awarded a silver medal from the International CD-i Association for "best use of CD-i technology in a home entertainment title".
Another example is the advanced ITV network system developed for Novell under Kilroy's direction which was presented for their COMDEX keynote address last November. It demonstrated the integration and control of computer networks and groupware applications, internet applications, home appliances, office equipment, wireless communications, information and entertainment video servers - all under the control of an interactive TV set top box connected by a phone line. One capability of the system demonstrated was pointing and viewing a video camera located "at home" from a hotel room's TV using real time MPEG-2 encoding and network transmission and real time user remote control.
Kilroy is currently moderator for the DVD Section of Compuserve's Multimedia Forum and is actively involved in early developments in DVD authoring.
